The HydroVac Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day-to-day HydroVac excavation operations,
ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with company and regulatory standards. This role involves
managing crews, coordinating equipment and schedules, and maintaining strong communication with
clients, site personnel, and management. The HydroVac Supervisor ensures that all vacuum excavation
and related services are performed safely, on time, and to quality standards.

Position Specific Expectations
Operational Management
• Supervise HydroVac operators, swampers, and field crews on job sites.
• Plan and schedule daily work assignments and equipment deployment.
• Monitor job progress to ensure timelines and project goals are met.
• Conduct pre- and post-job inspections, ensuring work quality and safety
compliance.
Safety & Compliance
• Enforce all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, DOT, local jurisdiction standards).
• Lead daily safety meetings (tailgate/toolbox talks).
• Ensure all staff use proper PPE and follow safe excavation and confined space entry procedures.
• Investigate and document any incidents, near misses, or equipment damage. Team Leadership & Training
• Provide leadership, mentorship, and hands-on training to crew members.
• Conduct performance evaluations and recommend development opportunities.
• Promote a positive work culture emphasizing teamwork, accountability, and safety.
Equipment & Maintenance
• Oversee the proper operation, maintenance, and inspection of HydroVac units and related equipment.
• Coordinate repairs and preventive maintenance with the shop/mechanics.
• Ensure accurate daily vehicle inspections (DVIRs) and maintenance logs. Administration & Reporting
• Complete daily job reports, timesheets, and project documentation accurately.
• Communicate regularly with project managers, clients, and dispatch regarding project updates and scheduling.
Qualifications:
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in HydroVac or vacuum excavation operations.
• Previous supervisory or crew lead experience required.
• Valid Class A or B CDL with a clean driving record (with air brake endorsement preferred).
• Strong knowledge of excavation safety, utility locating, and environmental regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret maps, drawings, and job specifications.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Capable of working outdoors in varying weather and site conditions.
• Physically fit to perform field work as needed.
